Kaiji Episode 23

By Brian

Yeah, I have a much better idea what happened in this episode.

Rating: 8.7 crushed tissue boxes out of 10.

Kaiji has hit the homestretch as the last few episodes are going to air.

This begins the arc for the last game, Tissue Box Raffle. It involves tissues and a tissue box (no fapping) and it is clear that Kaiji wants to take down the Chairman and have him play one more game so that he can properly avenge his fallen comrades. I think he said something about how the money he won is stained by their blood.

Kaiji will try to convince the Chairman to play a game where the Chairman will unknowingly be cheated.  It’s Kaiji’s method of role-reversal as a means of vegeance.

Edit: Alright, basically he will challenge the Chairman to a game where they pick lots out of a tissue box.  The player who draws the one with a mark on it wins the money.  Kaiji’s plan is to plant a fake one within the side of the box that he can reach and claim victory with.  The peanut gallery alerts him of the flaws of his plan, such as the likelihood of the blacksuits finding the real and fake winning lots together, but Kaiji is able to devise ways to circumvent these potential technicalities.

Kaiji, meanwhile, still has quite the debt to pay.

The Chairman is reluctant to play and makes excuses why he shouldn’t.  He thinks one loss won’t make him any less of a professional, though Kaiji sees the flaw in his argument when he remembers how Tonegawa was punished for his only loss.  Kaiji refuses to relent and stops the Chairman from retiring for the night.

The Chairman doesn’t want to stay up any later for more games, but Kaiji isn’t going to hear any of that.

Preview for next week (more screencaps are available here, of course) :

A lot of this episode was devoted to talking and setting the stage for episodes 24 and beyond.  It seems Kaiji is able to persuade the Chairman just enough to make him stay up just a little longer.
